Q. I have to wear a bandanna most of the day to cover my dreads for work. Is this bad or going to cause them not to work out correctly?

A. Nope, that shouldn’t hinder the locking process at all – don’t worry, it’s pretty hard to STOP dreads from happening, really, especially if you are giving them a little help getting going by backcombing and using wax, etc. Have patience, my pretty…

Q. Can I still use dreadlock wax if I play an extremely physical sport requiring a helmet, such as hockey, football, BMXing or snowboarding?

A. Well, I think it all depends on how much extra room you have in yer helmet, or if you’d be willing to grab a helmet that’s a size larger perhaps. That’s the only concern I would really have, the fact that dreads do make your head-size a bit larger, y’know? Especially as time goes on, naps grow fatter as no hair really falls out of them like with normal hair. There are lots of helmet-wearers that have dreads and it doesn’t seem to pose any problems, so I think you’ll be fine, too!

  1. I was at the African World Festival in Detroit in 2006. A vendor was selling dreadlock hair accessory called a lock sock. Can anyone tell me is they know where I can get one of these?
