Q. My hair is thick as a beast…is this good or bad for starting dreads? What about Asian hair?

A. Thick hair is always good for dreads, makes them really nice and heavy but takes a bit more maintenance to lock up, just cuz it’s not as manageable as thin, fine hair.

Don’t let that scare you, though, especially if you’re locking up with a good wax like Knotty Boy – the wax helps all kinds hair types dread more easily and quickly by binding it all together and giving it a good head start.

  1. I had no idea that thick hair would be good for dreadlocks. I always thought the hair had to be thinner. I have very thick and coarse hair with a bit of a wave and dismissed the idea several times. It’s great to know I do have the option and it is possible – it’s a fabulous summer look and easy to go.
